Show yer steel…

Alright since I posted the revolvers vs handguns I actually got a couple emails (almost goddamn died of shock) asking what my personal preferences are besides 40S&W. Well to be blunt I’m not the biggest fan of semi-autos. I like revolvers, wheelguns, six-shooters whatever you want to call them and I like them in calibers from 38. Special to 44. Magnum (and even 44. Mag is a little much for me to want in a self defense situation. I’ve seen a couple of 500. (50cal) revolvers and really I would sooner use those to beat the ever living hell out of my opponent instead of shooting him. My current handgun is a Rossi police style that’s about 20 years old, she has a 5 shot capacity in her cylinder and is chambered in the 38. special. For a defense load I’d either use 38. +p’s or federal hydrashocks. Revolvers in general are a little thick for concealed carry so if I had to carry a semi I’d go with a few different brands but I really like the Springfield Mxd tactical pistol in the 40.S&W (surprise at the caliber!) it has a nice feel to it and is extremely comfortable for wear and use. I also like 1911s in the beloved 45. ACP because there is a certain satisfaction in knowing that whatever your shooting at, as long as you hit it, the fucker is going down. I also like knives because they have slightly more utility as an all around tool then a gun, however the old adage over not taking a knife to a gun fight remains sorely true (and it never hurts to have the only gun in the room when you end up at a knife fight).
Now since I’m talking about what I like when it comes to guns I’m gonna spell out my favorites, my wish lists and all my serious preferences. Rifles. I have alot of different tastes in rifles but they all come down to higher caliber weapons, though to be honest I love my 50 year old 22. bolt action like no other weapon in my possession (given to me by my grandfather when I turned 18, the age he purchased it). I like cowboy school weapons such as Single Action Revolvers as mentioned above and when it comes to cowboys and rifles the lever action rifle sets the standard. Now I like 30.-30 but if you really want to do things cowboy style you need to buy your revolver and your rifle in same caliber (means you haul less and spend less on ammo). I like the 45. Long Colt in both revolvers and rifles. I also like bolt actions of all form and function whether target, deer or varmit rifles. I like 30-06, .300win short mag and of course 50. cal is a blast to shoot. I again like a mix of the old school and the new school with a passion for serene wood stocks and the new military style set ups too.
I’m also really in to military weapons ranging from old school guns like the M1 Garand and the russian SKS to the AK-47 and the M-14.
You could say that in truth I’m really in to weapons that have a story to tell, a history behind them. Alot of modern weapons don’t have the story of the older guns. Their machine made, stamped steel and while proficient have no heart in them. The old weapons of the American west and firearms that are so famous as to have a legend behind them (the M1 Garand and the AK in particular). That’s enough rambling about that maybe another post you can get me to digress in to a discussion of what shooting events I like…
