Dumbfucks Special Edition: Communism doesn’t Work and Asia (as well as everything else) proves it
I hate dumbfucks, but I absolutely hate dumbfucks who despite having it repeatedly thrown in their face that something will never ever work still think it will work regardless. Asia has the last of the world’s communist old guard (with the noted exception of The People’s Democratic Republic of California). Who’s left? Well on paper there’s China, Vietnam and of course everyone’s favorite North Korea (try our new three grains of rice a day meal plan!). Now let’s shine the light of honesty on to these three regimes. Of them all NK is the only one that’s actually communist. The only commies left in Vietnam and China are the guys who run the party and I’d bet those old bastards have capitalist sidelines all the way to the bank. Both countries are seriously capitalist and both (china especially) are experiencing a growing economy. North Korea on the other hand…. well they’ve kept true to their version of communism and their people are destitue and their production of anything beyond cheap AK-47 knock-offs and sustinance farming is minimal. So what does that spell out in big bill board letters? That Communism doesn’t freaking work! These countries improved markedly (China becoming a world power for reasons beyond sheer numbers comes to mind) as soon as they ditched communism and started up with a capitalist mentality.
Meanwhile in certain part of the EU and Canada socialist programs are destroying various industries, primarily medicine. Socialized medicine is destroying good medical practice overburdening hospitals and burying staffs underloads of paperwork. It’s also driving bright young men and women away from the difficult task of med school because of goverment provided wages being much poorer then what a doctor in the private sector of another nation can demand. Also it’s quite literally killing people. Say you need a vital liver transplant to live, you need it within the year. Now the goverment sets a certain amount of liver transplants for the year and you have to get on the list. (It doesn’t matter how many livers they have availible, the number of surgeries is set). The list is 20 people long, you submit your package and dammit your 21 out of a list of 20. Sure you can plead that you’ll die with out it but so will those other 20. In a capitalist health care system if they have the liver and you can pay, you’ll be on the table in short order. Socialized medicine is great for little things, the various colds and coughs and cuts we all deal with through out the year but when it comes to big things like surgery… it falls short, ditto major treatments like for cancer or anything requiring long term care. Which may be why an entire industry exists in Canda, the sole goal of which is to find it’s clients healthcare in the United States. People seem to forget that doctors are craftsman just like any other trade, they forget this because they tend to romaticize medicine. Sorry folks it’s an economic transaction just like anything else. You want a service so you go to a tradesman and pay for that service. The better the craftsman, the better the service, the more you pay. You wouldn’t pay a master mechanic with years of experience the same amount of money as the guys at Jiffy Lube so why would you do that for doctors? Or anything for that matter, to borrow from Starship Troopers, would you pay the same for an apple tart prepared by a master chef as you would the one you purchase out of a vending machine?
“The first lesson of economics is scarcity: there is never enough of anything to fully
satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first
lesson of economics.”
–Thomas Sowell
